How to Protect Yourself From COVID-19 at the Gym 2560 1708 Clear Gear

For many of us, the gym is an essential part of our lives and maintaining overall health. Yet with the COVID-19 pandemic at hand, fears are growing about germs at the gym. The gym is indeed a hotbed for germs, and without precautions, can quickly become contaminated. That’s why it’s essential to adopt a protocol for COVID-19 prevention if you want to stay healthy.

Here are some steps you can take to stay safe while working out.

Only Work Out in a Safe Environment

In the current COVID-19 crisis, it’s important to only use facilities that are committed to maintaining the safety and well-being of their members. Only work out at a gym that decontaminates daily—at a minimum—and uses a powerful fitness center antibacterial spray like Clear Gear. Look for an email from the facilities you work out at that communicates the measures they’re taking to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. If they have not sent one out, call the gym and ask what precautions they’re taking.

Wipe Equipment Down Thoroughly

Be sure to clean all equipment down before and after each use. Don’t just wipe down cardio equipment—target and free weights, benches and strength training machines that you use. We suggest bringing your own fitness center antibacterial spray with you so that you know you’re using something that is truly effective at killing germs.

Wash Your Hands

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap, for 20 seconds or longer, before and after your workout. You should also use the alcohol-based hand sanitizer many gyms provide after using popular equipment.

Spray Your Shoes

Many germs can live on shoes and get tracked from one location to another. Spray down your shoes immediately after each use so that you don’t track germs into your car or home.

Bring Your Own Mat

The spongy material that yoga and gym mats are made of are breeding ground for germs! Only use your own mat and disinfect it thoroughly before and after each use.

Stay Home if You Are Sick

If you are showing symptoms of a cold, flu or COVID-19, do not go to the gym! Rest up at home.
